Preliminary Activity Final Product and Evaluation

Evaluation

In preparation for filming the horror scene I learnt different ways to use the camera and tripod to create different shots and camera effects, such as changing the height of the tripod to get a high or low angle shot. Also how a storyboard of all the shots that are going to be used can really help when shooting the footage needed because we had something to reference also it helps avoid and continuity errors. We also researched different kinds of horror films like the 'Blair Witch Project' which is based in a similar setting to ours and 'Cabin In The Woods' and other clips from films that could be found on Youtube. For the scary antagonist we tested make up so she had a very pale face and dark eyes, similar to the things you typically see in horror films. Then for the location we thought a graveyard would be ideal but because we couldn't get permission to film there we went to Sutton Park which was just as effective.

When editing our footage I used iMovie so I could cut out anything unwanted, add our production logo, inter-titles, the green screen at the start to show it's an 'official' film, add the soundtrack and also add different effects and change the lighting. Because I wanted to create an creepy look to the film I edited the exposure, brightness and saturation so it looks harsh and a bit grainy. Also different transitions were used in between the shots so it looked less jumpy. The production logo was made on Fireworks then edited on iMovie to give it the glowing effect. For the soundtrack I found a few different tracks on Youtube and converted the one that was the most suitable into an mp3 file to add to the film.

Overall I think the editing off the lighting and colouring went quite well and the transitions between shots but the camera work was a bit shaky, especially in the tracking shot where the camera pans across. Also some shots don't quite match up so it seems a bit jumpy and the ending is a bit anti-climatic. But generally I think it turned out okay.

I also asked someone who is interested in horror films what they thought:
