Evaluation - Question One - In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How I have used codes and conventions in my print products:

Evaluation - Question Two - How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Evaluation - Question Three - What have you learned from your audience feedback?

I sent out a survey using SurveyMonkey, to ask a group of people from my target audience a few questions about my products.

Here is the questionnaire:

Here are the responses I got:

I got a video recording of someone from my target audience, asking them similar questions that I asked in the survey:

I also got some voice recordings:

Overall I think the feedback I've received is very useful because it has given me things that I can work on to improve my products, for example they suggest a few changes to the editing of the trailer, to make it less story-like and a bit more fast paced and possibly change the layout of the posters somehow.

I have used feedback from a certain audience throughout my research and planning to help me decide what would make the most effective products. I took feedback into account when choosing which narrative and film idea to go with, then masthead ideas, magazine names and film logos. I think this has helped a lot because I want my products to appeal to my audience and getting their opinions on it as I'm working on them has helped me create something the audience might be interested in.

But if I had the chance to do my products again now that I have some audience feedback I would probably add a better colour scheme to my print products so they looked a bit more interesting and unique, it might also help the text to stand out a bit more so it doesn't blend into the background. Then with the trailer I think I would have changed the editing so it is more fast paced and less chronological, so it is less like a short film and more like a trailer that builds suspension.

Evaluation - Question Four - How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Print Product Research

Here are some examples of existing Billboard Posters that I might take influence from:

The conventions of a billboard poster are:
  • A large image, usually featuring the main characters featured in the film
  • Title of the film
  • The main actors names
  • The director and possibly producer's names
  • Reviews, ratings and maybe award nominations
  • Credits
I have created some layout sketches for the billboard poster, using the same conventions to the examples above:

Because film posters are very similar to the billboard poster, they share a lot of the same conventions, which are:
  • A large image, usually featuring the main characters featured in the film
  • Title of the film
  • The main actors names
  • The director and possibly producer's names
  • Reviews, ratings and maybe award nominations
  • Credits
  • Release Date of the film
  • Possibly the website for the film

Locations and Filming Planning

I found some old empty warehouses in Digbeth which I might use for Scene 9.

Here is what it looks like from the outside:

Here is what it looks like from the inside:

Next to the warehouse was a smaller building which we could also use as an alternative:

More Intertitles Testing

Here I have tested similar things for the intertitles, using the green screen effect on iMovie and overlaying it over the time-lapse. I have also used some long shot and put some fake reviews by critics over them, then to make the text stand out I have added the 'Day to Night' filter on some of the shot, and editing the colours of them.

Production Schedule

We are re-filming some of the scenes for our trailer as they didn't turn out the way we wanted. Here is the schedule for the filming:

I checked the weather for when we will be filming to make sure that it's suitable:

We also found another location to film in Digbeth which we are going to use for some of the scenes.

Here are the new locations for Scene 6:

And here are the locations we will use for Scene 4, when Max and Faith are looking around town:
